Zombie Walk 2009: Save the Date!
It looks like this year’s Zombie Walk (site updated soon) will be held on Saturday, October 24 in Downtown Silver Spring. Those of you who participated in last year’s event know what a great time it was, and we hope this year will be even bigger. A rough count of 2008′s participants clocked in at nearly 200 undead from the estimates we got, and I know we can get enough people to fill the theater this year.
Speaking of which, stay tuned for a special announcement in the coming days about the entertainment we’re trying to line up. And I call dibs on my special zombie costume for this year.

Keep an eye out for some historical banners making their way to Silver Spring, sponsored by the Montgomery County Historical Society. They’ll highlight different themes, including agriculture, the Civil War, the Depression, and slavery and freedom in three different languages: Chinese, English and Spanish. And seeing the MoCo Society’s site and the wealth of information it has makes me think it’s a shame the Silver Spring Historical Society can’t get a decent site up.

We’re so there. Last year was awesome.
Eric,
Why do you keep berating our organization? We are all volunteers and do the best we can with what LITTLE support we get from the community. If you think we don’t have a decent web site, then maybe you should volunteer and design a better one for us.

When I have the time, I just might do that. It’s more a function of being interested in the history of the town and wanting an online resource where I can view old maps and documents, look at the history of the town in its entirety. I know it’s a lot to ask and it’s tough to put a site up, much less find the time to keep it up to date.
In an ideal world, every single piece of history you have at the Society would be scanned, photographed or otherwise and put into a digital archive, accessible to everyone. I know I’m talking about a pipe dream that take a lot of time and resources, and my comment was meant as more of a longing for more than a slam against you. My apologies for that.
Looks like there was a zombie walk this weekend

Completely off topic, but it look like the Exxon Station on Fenton and Thayer that has been vacant for some time is being reopened, thus ending my dream of establishing a locally owned gas station where the gas is pumped, refined, and sold on site.
