Hello, Cleveland! Rock and Roll!

Just when all the slow blog traffic had been getting me down, today rolls in and punches me in the gut.

According to the Washington Post, the County Council has officially cleared the way for Live Nation to build The Fillmore in downtown Silver Spring. And right as I was buying tickets for a show next month at 9:30.

Plenty of people will continue to poo-poo the idea, and that’s fine; it’s not a perfect deal, to be sure. In a final tally of 7-2, Roger Berliner and Marc Elrich voted against the amendments that allowed the deal to go through, and I respect their votes. Planning Board Chairman Royce Hanson appeared to be a little more miffed. Screw him. He can stand outside while all the young kids are listening to their “rock combos” doing that “dancing thing” they do.

I anticipate much more news to develop as this thing picks up speed.

In other big news…
The District 3 police station on Sligo Avenue will be moving to the northeast quadrant of Four Corners, and evidently, there’s room for a new police substation planned alongside Firehouse #1 on Georgia Avenue.

I hope to see the MoCoPoPo sudsing it up after hours at Hook & Ladder acorss the street.

The Police Substation already exists on the second floor of the Silver Spring Fire Station. No new building will be built on that site for the Police.
