And lo and behold, it’s a New York & Co. [But boy would I love to be wrong.] Given that the neighborhood could use so many convenient amenities to satisfy shoppers’ needs — both residents and the workforce alike — I’m perplexed by the selection of this store for the corner, particularly in light of the fact that there’s a Steve & Barry’s and many other clothing shops that cater to the twenty-something set. [Express, on the other hand, would have been a very good addition in my opinion.] So, I chalk it up to the fact that the development corp. had slim pickings. While we at Marimekko don’t have immediate plans to grow our selection of men’s clothing, we are expanding our collection of children’s items, giftware, and crafts (e.g., yarn and knitting & quilter supplies) – items that we can offer for the sake of fun and convenience. Let’s see what’s on deck for the Bombay Company.

Trans fats were developed in 1900 (Crisco since 1911) and have been a staple in American baking throughout the 20th century. During this time our life expendency has risen. Yea, trans fats are bad, but we’re right up there (as a nation) in longevity. Take the money earmarked for inforcement of food nazi laws and spend it on more police. When I’m 80, I’d rather drop over dipping a cranberry scone in my laite at Kefa Cafe, then getting mugged walking home down Georgia Ave.

Re: No stores for men to shop at in Downtown Silver Spring. I count three stores in Downtown Silver Spring that cater to women (Ann Taylor, DSW, and Kibana spa and salon) versus one that caters to men (Men’s Warehouse). Then there are the stores that (to indulge in some benign gender stereotyping) likely get most of their business from women and from men. Strosnider’s and Golf Etc cater predominantly to men whereas Marimekko, Maryland Youth Bellet, and Gymboree likely get most of their business from women or girls.

There’s also a gender gap amongst the restaurants. I consider Eggspectation to be girly and Moby Dick to be manly.

No more sausage gravy? I thought that trans-fats came from hydrogenated oils. Why can’t they make it out of, oh, I don’t know… sausage, lard, flour, and pepper? Same way as it was since the invention of fire or the pointy stick.

I suspect it may be New York & Company. You may remember New York & Company from such malls as Westfield Shoppingtown Montgomery and Westfield Shoppingtown Wheaton. Of course, that's just speculation. What's with all the women's clothes? There are no stores for men to shop at down there.
